MacInnis Family History
Grampa Norm’s father trained/bused to U.S ahead of his family from P.E.I Canada around 1924 and settled in Somerville. A year later he arranged to get his family to join him. His father was a painter and died around 1927 they think from lead poisoning. Norm was 12 (1925) when he arrived in Somerville. Norm’s first job that I know of out of High School was at the A&P Grocery Store in Davis Square. Other jobs were: Coke-a-Cola delivery truck, Raytheon (during WWII), opened an appliance store on Mass Ave in Arlington (ended up pretty bad). He discovered sales and became a Manufacturers Rep where he found his niche. His best line was TV Antennae which he sold and made decent money. When your father got out of the Army he went to work for Norm selling some of his lines. That’s when Don made many connections in to the electrical world and launched his various businesses.
Myrtle on the other hand was born in Laconia, NH (1913) but her Mom and Dad came down from New Brunswick Canada around 1910. Their name was Crocker. Her father was a machinist and his brother manufactured Aluminum Storm windows. He worked for his brother. They had a large manufacturing plant in Wilmington. His son (Lloyd) built the original Twin Ice Hockey Rinks in Wilmington. Myrtle’s mother worked with her sister Alice Rice who owned “Alice’s Bakery” in Davis Square. After Myrtle graduated from Aurora College she worked as a hostess at Schraff’s Restaurant in Boston.
So—-One day Norm was fixing the A&P Fruit stand outside and Myrtle was waiting for a bus to go to work in Boston. He asked her for a date which was to a Bruins game in 1935. We are the rest of their story.
